About Louis

I’m a first-year undergraduate studying History at the University of Oxford. I’m eager to tutor so that I can pass on the methods of learning I found most useful during my own exams, and help others get to grips with what can seem an impossibly large curriculum, particularly in humanities subjects.

Whatever the content of the course, humanities subjects are highly formulaic, and once that formula is uncovered the course becomes far more manageable. Helping students get there gives me real fulfilment, because it makes what are, for many students, the most stressful periods of their school career more bearable.

My achievements include being Very Highly Commended in the John Locke Essay Prize (2025), being Highly Commended in the Rex Nettleford History Prize the same year and in the Minds Underground competition the year before, and being made a Senior Scholar at St Paul’s School. I achieved four A*s at A-Level, in Economics, Politics, History and Italian, and an A* in my EPQ.

I was editor-in-chief of my school’s history magazine, sat on the committee of the Politics Society and spoke regularly at many other societies. I balanced this with frequent tennis training and music: I play the violin and have reached diploma level in singing and flute. I now sing in the St Peter’s College choir alongside my studies.

I joined Mayfair Scholars to share the methods that worked for me and to make exam season more manageable for other students.
