1. Who these terms apply to
These terms apply to anyone who books or uses tutoring services from Mayfair Scholars (“we”, “us”, “our”), whether the booking is made by you for yourself (if you’re 18 or over) or by a parent/guardian on behalf of a student. By booking a session, you agree to these terms.
- Trading name: Mayfair Scholars
- Legal entity: Mayfair Scholars is not a registered limited company; it is run by its co-founders as a general partnership.
- Partners/owners: Aryan Sankaye, Siddharth Chaudhary, Ronit Mendonca, Algernon Nottingham
- Contact: enquiries@mayfairscholars.co.uk
2. Our services
Mayfair Scholars provides online tutoring and exam preparation covering 11+/entrance exams, GCSE, A-Level, homeschooling support, plus mock exams and interview preparation (including Oxbridge admissions and 11+). Sessions are delivered remotely generally via Google Meet. We are not a registered school, and our services do not replace statutory education requirements.
3. Age and parental responsibility
If the student is under 18, the contract for services is between us and the parent/guardian, not the student. The parent/guardian:
- Confirms they have parental responsibility for the student
- Consents to the processing of the student’s personal data as described in our Privacy Policy
- Is responsible for payment and for the student’s attendance and conduct during sessions
4. Booking and payment
- Sessions are booked via email
- Prices are as quoted at the time of booking, in the local currency (e.g. GBP for the UK)
- Payment is due before/after each session (by agreement), via bank transfer or any other agreed upon means.
- We reserve the right to suspend services if payment is not received within 3 days of the due date.
5. Cancellations, rescheduling, and refunds
- Your right to cancel: If you’re a consumer booking online or by phone, UK law (the Consumer Contracts Regulations 2013) gives you 14 days to cancel from the date of booking. If you ask us to start sessions within that 14-day period, you may still cancel, but you’ll pay for any sessions already delivered.
- Cancelling or rescheduling a session: Please give at least 3 days’ notice to reschedule or cancel a session without charge. Sessions cancelled with less notice will be charged in full.
- Cancelling the ongoing arrangement: Either party may end the tutoring arrangement with 7 days’ written notice.
- Refunds: Unused pre-paid sessions are refunded unless cancelled within 3 days of the lesson as aforementioned.
6. Conduct and safeguarding
- Tutors are expected to maintain a professional, respectful, and safe learning environment, whether sessions are delivered online or in person.
- All tutors undergo a DBS (background check) as part of our vetting process; checks are currently in progress/starting and not yet complete for all tutors – we will not overstate this status, and we’re happy to confirm the status of an individual tutor’s check on request.
- Online sessions should take place in a way that keeps the student visible and appropriately supervised where age-appropriate; we recommend a parent/guardian is reasonably available nearby for younger students.
- We do not permit tutors to contact students or parents outside of agreed communication channels (e.g. no personal social media contact).
- Any safeguarding concern should be reported immediately to enquiries@mayfairscholars.co.uk. We will act on all concerns in line with our safeguarding policy.
- We reserve the right to terminate a tutor’s engagement, or a student’s access to our services, for breach of this code of conduct.
7. Intellectual property
Any materials, worksheets, or resources we provide remain our intellectual property (or that of the tutor who created them). You may use them for the student’s personal study but may not redistribute, resell, or publish them without our permission.
8. Liability
Nothing in these terms limits or excludes our liability for death or personal injury caused by our negligence, for fraud, or for anything else that cannot lawfully be limited or excluded.
Subject to that, we provide our services with reasonable care and skill, but we do not guarantee specific exam results or grade outcomes, which depend on many factors outside our control. Our liability for any other loss is limited to the fees paid for the services giving rise to the claim.
9. Complaints
If you’re unhappy with any aspect of our service, please contact us at enquiries@mayfairscholars.co.uk in the first instance. We aim to acknowledge complaints within 7 days and resolve them promptly.
10. Changes to these terms
We may update these terms from time to time; the “last updated” date shows the current version. Continued use of our services after a change means you accept the updated terms.
11. Governing law
These terms are governed by the law of England and Wales, and any dispute will be subject to the exclusive jurisdiction of the courts of England and Wales.
