About Sid

My name is Sid, and I study Joint Mathematics and Computing at Imperial College London, having attended St Paul’s School. As Director of 11+ at Mayfair Scholars, I help children prepare for the entrance exams and interviews of London’s top independent schools. My own background includes eleven grade 9s at GCSE, three A*s and an A at A-Level, and top national finishes in Mathematics and AI Olympiads. I also tutor Mathematics, Further Mathematics, Physics and Computer Science, and prepare students for the TMUA, ESAT and TARA.

Having secured 11+ offers from St Paul’s, Westminster, City of London School and Queen Elizabeth’s School, Barnet, I know first-hand what entrance panels are looking for. At ten years old, the biggest hurdle isn’t just knowing the rules of maths or English; it’s learning to tackle unfamiliar problems that apply those rules under pressure, without panicking. Rote memorisation only gets a child so far. Top independent and grammar schools test whether a student can think flexibly when faced with something they’ve never seen before.

In my sessions, I swap dry drills for interactive problem-solving. When a student freezes on a complex pattern or a multi-step logic puzzle, we don’t jump to the answer or memorise a trick. We break the question into bite-sized clues until the child spots the pattern for themselves. Watching a student go from “I can’t do this” to proudly explaining the solution back to me is the most rewarding part of teaching.

Outside tutoring, I co-founded and worked at 11+ Vocab, a specialist 11+ preparation company that creates print resources, practice materials and mobile learning apps for families and tuition centres worldwide. I’m also involved in machine learning research, and recently co-authored a paper accepted at NeurIPS, one of the leading international conferences in artificial intelligence. That background shapes how I teach: clear structure, simple explanations, and big problems broken down into steps young children can easily follow.

At Mayfair Scholars, my goal is to make 11+ preparation feel empowering rather than overwhelming. By combining academic rigour with a warm, encouraging environment, I help students work towards places at top schools while building lasting confidence in their own abilities.
