Hello! My name is Ben, and I’m an enthusiastic, dedicated STEM tutor specialising in Mathematics, Further Mathematics, Physics and Chemistry. I recently achieved nine grade 9s and two grade 8s at GCSE, and A*s in Maths (100% in Statistics), Physics (100% in Papers 1 and 3) and Chemistry, with an A in Further Maths, so I have a thorough understanding of the current GCSE and A-Level courses and what it takes to achieve top grades. I’m now studying Computer Science and Electronics at the University of Warwick.
Beyond the classroom, I keep active through rowing, and I pushed the boundaries of engineering with my school’s F24+ racing team, where I designed custom carbon-fibre wheels. I also enjoy sharing my passion for science through volunteering, such as mentoring younger students at the St Paul’s School Physics Summer School.
My journey into tutoring began with helping friends in the year below with Mathematics. Through that, I realised how much I enjoy breaking down complex, intimidating ideas and watching a concept finally click. I believe academic success isn’t about memorisation; it’s about building fundamental understanding and resilience.
When I tutor, I guide students through problems rather than simply giving them the answers, and I encourage them to tackle as much of a problem as they can on their own before I step in. My goal is to help students build genuine problem-solving skills that let them answer any question an exam can throw at them.
Ultimately, tutoring is about more than results; it’s about unlocking a student’s belief in themselves. By creating a supportive, encouraging environment, I aim to make sure my students go into their exams feeling fully prepared, capable and confident.
I joined Mayfair Scholars to keep doing what first drew me to tutoring: breaking down intimidating ideas until they click, and helping students build the problem-solving skills to tackle any question themselves.
