My name is Charlie. I’m a former pupil of St Paul’s School and now study Economics at University College London.
I tutor Maths, Further Maths and Economics at 11+, GCSE and A-Level. At A-Level I achieved A*s in Maths (97%) and Further Maths (87%), As in History and Economics, and an A* for my EPQ, an economic history dissertation. At GCSE I achieved eight grade 9s and three grade 8s. I was a Senior Scholar and Prefect at St Paul’s, and received the Lidwell Prize for Extended Projects (2026) and the Prefect Award.
I was a member of the Politics and Economics Society and my House leadership team. Outside the classroom I was Vice-Captain of the 1st XV rugby team, Rugby Sevens Captain and Athletics Captain.
Between 2022 and 2026 I built up several years of tutoring and volunteering experience, tutoring children at 11+ and GCSE. I was also a Platinum Colet Mentor and helped with the Beyond Ourselves charity project, tutoring children from Limapela School in Zambia.
My tutoring is rooted in empathy: I try to understand how each student thinks and what suits them best. I’m also very methodical, because in subjects like Economics and History, knowing the mark scheme and how to set out your work is key. My main method is to help students work through the process themselves and learn from their mistakes, rather than trying to memorise a textbook. With one GCSE Maths student, I also stressed that staying level-headed and in control of your emotions is a powerful tool for exams and problem-solving in general. Overall, I’ve learnt that working on fundamental revision techniques and a student’s baseline understanding is what leads to academic breakthroughs.
My experiences in and out of school have reinforced my belief that teaching students how to learn for themselves matters more than telling them what to do. At Mayfair Scholars, I want my students to leave every lesson with a better understanding of the topic and a clear improvement, whether in their approach, their technique or their results. My aim is to develop their reasoning and problem-solving skills so they can succeed, grow academically and improve their grades.
